150 Rice Processing Centers Built Under Marcos Administration, More Planned

Balingasag: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his government's commitment to agricultural modernization, revealing that 150 rice processing systems have been constructed across the nation, with additional facilities slated for completion and construction starting this year.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the launch and turnover of crucial agricultural support projects in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, President Marcos emphasized the administration's goal to establish rice processing facilities in every major rice-producing province. This initiative aims to enhance productivity and boost farmer incomes.

One of the significant facilities inaugurated was the Rice Processing System II, which is projected to increase milling recovery rates from 55 percent to 65 percent. This improvement is expected to reduce post-harvest losses by 32,000 metric tons annually and potentially generate PHP541 million in additional income for farmers.

President Marcos highlighted that this is part of a broader objective under his administration, with 150 Rice Processing Systems already constructed. He also announced plans for 20 more systems to be completed by 2025 and 50 new ones to break ground within the year.

The President stated the administration's intention to have at least one processing facility per province, with larger provinces requiring two to adequately support their rice-growing areas.

In addition to the rice processing systems, the launch included the SUnRISE Integrated Coconut Processing Facility, a public-private partnership designed to transform the coconut industry in Northern Mindanao. SUnRISE stands for Solving Unemployment through Rural Industrialization, Sustainable and Enterprise development.
