Manila: The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced the deployment of over 18,000 police officers to ensure security for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo, Manila on January 9.

According to Philippines News Agency, NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin detailed that the deployment will consist of 15,946 officers dedicated to area and route security, along with an additional 2,266 personnel serving as an augmentation force. Personnel deployment is set to begin on Tuesday evening, with full deployment expected by Wednesday.

Aberin emphasized that the deployment strategy would involve the entire NCRPO, with support from Regions 4A and 3, focusing primarily on Manila. Efforts are being coordinated with local government units, religious groups, and other agencies to maintain peace and order during the religious event. Intelligence units have been actively gathering information for months, and currently, no threats have been identified.

The use of drone cameras is prohibited as the procession route is a designated no-fly zone. The NCRPO is also seeking approval from the national police headquarters to suspend permits for carrying firearms in Metro Manila from January 8 to 10. Additionally, a request has been made for signal disruption in specific areas during the event.

Devotees are advised against carrying valuables and large sums of cash to reduce theft risks. The carrying of bladed items, backpacks, and potentially hazardous materials is strictly prohibited.

Manila Police District director Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad mentioned that aside from the Hijos del Nazareno, around 800 police officers who are also devotees, known as 'hijos-pulis', will assist in securing the event. These officers will work alongside the church to ensure the safety and order of the procession.
