Tacloban city: At least 2,408 police officers across Eastern Visayas have been deployed to cemeteries and terminals to ensure public safety as the country observes All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad, Police Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) director, stated that the security plan activated on Oct. 30 covers high-traffic areas, including 326 cemeteries and memorial parks, as well as transport terminals, ports, and other public locations expected to see increased foot traffic. A total of 412 police assistance desks have been set up to provide immediate support and maintain peace and order. "We have thoroughly collaborated with local government units and law enforcement agencies to enhance our security measures. Additionally, we will involve force multipliers and enlist the support of the Advocacy Support Group to bolster the operation and ensure a comprehensive security strategy is in place," Cumigad said. To further reinforce public safety, che ckpoints and policing interventions will be enforced across the region. "Our goal is to increase police visibility and take proactive steps to prevent any criminal activity. This heightened presence and preparedness will help ensure a safer environment for all who participate in Undas 2024," Cumigad added. From Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, thousands of people are expected to flock to cemeteries to honor their dead loved ones by visiting their tombs and praying for their souls.
