Iloilo city: The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) has strengthened the capabilities of city and provincial police offices in Western Visayas by distributing essential mobility assets, tires, and search, rescue, and retrieval equipment. This initiative, aimed at ensuring heightened security during the upcoming long weekend, was marked by a ceremony at the regional headquarters in Iloilo City on Thursday. According to Philippines News Agency, the deployment includes two Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) vans and a light transport vehicle designated for the Antique Police Provincial Office, along with a 4x4 personnel carrier allocated to the Alimodian Police Station under the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO). Additionally, the PRO6 distributed 1,060 raincoats, 600 hard hats, 176 life vests, and 120 tires to eight city and provincial police offices, the regional headquarters, and the mobile force battalion. PRO6 Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky emphasized the importance of these resources, particularly durin g the busy months of the year. With the Philippine National Police on heightened alert since Wednesday, the additional assets are crucial in enhancing police visibility and presence. "The coming days and months pose gargantuan challenges because the requirements for police presence and visibility would be doubled, especially in places of convergence," Wanky stated. "This, more than ever, we need to prepare our personnel and our logistical capabilities for this call of duty." In preparation for the Undas observance, PRO6 has deployed 1,900 police officers to cemeteries, transport terminals, ports, and various convergence areas. Police assistance desks will also be set up to ensure public safety and security. Brig. Gen. Wanky highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting, "In our security coverage, we will closely coordinate and collaborate with the local government units, other law enforcement agencies, force multipliers, and advocacy support groups to assist in the operation."
