Manila: Families displaced by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) have finally received their housing units in a resettlement site at the Mission Hills Subdivision in Barangay Cabiawan, San Remigio, provided by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
According to Philippines News Agency, San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. mentioned that NHA Regional Manager Rizalino Cabahug led the turnover ceremony of the 25 housing units to their recipients on August 12. The NHA allocated PHP13 million for both the housing units and lot procurement, which were given as a grant to the beneficiaries, Mission stated in an interview.
He further explained that despite the weather disturbance occurring in 2013, the establishment of the resettlement site was delayed as the local government had to identify a suitable relocation area. Each housing unit comprises a 40-square-meter area designed to be safe from floods and landslides.
Mayor Mission emphasized the importance of the beneficiaries taking care of these housing units since they were provided free of charge by the government. In a related development, the Antique provincial board, during its regular session on August 17, approved a request from households displaced by Typhoon Frank. They have been permitted to use a 100-square-meter lot in the provincial government resettlement site for their agricultural trading post in Barangay Mohon, Belison.
The relocatees have organized themselves to participate in the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
