27.4K Families Impacted by Typhoon Bising and Southwest Monsoon

Manila: Over 27,000 families across three regions have been significantly impacted by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," and Typhoon Bising, internationally referred to as Danas. This information was reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the NDRRMC's 8 a.m. report detailed that 27,401 families, amounting to 82,548 individuals, were affected in 14 barangays located in Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 3 (Central Luzon), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Despite the large number of affected individuals, only two families or nine persons are currently taking shelter in evacuation centers, while assistance is being provided to 1,017 families or 3,002 individuals in other locations.

The Office of Civil Defense noted that the affected families include those displaced by severe weather conditions as well as those who remain in their homes. The NDRRMC also reported damage to 14 houses, with two in Region 3 classified as "totally damaged" and 12 in CAR described as "partially damaged."

As of the report's release, the NDRRMC has not yet received detailed information regarding the extent of infrastructure and agricultural damage or any potential casualties. The situation remains under close observation, with further updates expected as assessments continue.
