Clark: The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) officially started the WorldSkills Philippines national skills competition in Clark, Pampanga, on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, this year's edition, which will run until Sept. 10, features over 30 skill areas and 298 competitors representing 18 regions. "This competition is a spectacle, as it will showcase the world-class skills of young Filipinos, and hopefully will inspire more young people to see technical vocational education and training (TVET) as a pathway to rewarding careers," TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez said in a statement.
Participants will be assessed based on their technical knowledge, accuracy, quality of work, creativity, efficiency and ability to perform under pressure. "We are building a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals who can meet the needs of our industries and eventually carry the Philippine flag in international skills competitions," Benitez remarked.
The WorldSkills Philippines also provides an avenue for trainers, experts, industry partners and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and promote standards of excellence in TVET.
