3 MILF Members Arrested Amid Ongoing Maguindanao Sur Clan Feud

Manila: Government forces arrested three former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants Monday night, following infighting in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur. The arrests were part of an effort to quell violence stemming from a family feud, known locally as a 'rido', involving MILF factions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the individuals belonged to one of two MILF factions involved in clashes in Barangay Panadtaban, Rajah Buayan. Capt. Argie Eyana, the municipal police chief, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the detained individuals are embroiled in a conflict with other armed men who are also MILF members.

Since Sunday, at least six MILF groups have been involved in skirmishes in Maguindanao del Sur, parts of North Cotabato, and the Bangsamoro region's Special Geographic Area (SGA). These clashes have forced over 50 families to evacuate to safer locations, highlighting the impact of the ongoing feud on local communities.

On Monday night, law enforcement officials recovered one M15 rifle and two handguns from the arrested suspects. The individuals are currently detained at the Rajah Buayan municipal police station. In response to the escalating violence, Lt. Col. Roden Orbon, spokesperson for the Army's 6th Infantry Division (6ID), issued a warning to the warring factions, advising them to cease hostilities or face military intervention aimed at protecting civilians.

To mitigate further violence, the 6ID has deployed peacekeepers to the affected areas, striving to maintain stability and prevent additional clashes among the rival groups.
