3 Vietnamese Fake Dentists Nabbed in Cebu

Cebu: Authorities nabbed three Vietnamese nationals involved in the illegal practice of dentistry in Cebu province. According to Philippines News Agency, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II stated in a news release on Wednesday that the operation in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City, on August 10 was initiated following a complaint from the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), Mandaue Chapter. The complaint highlighted the alleged illegal practice of dentistry by these foreign nationals.

CIDG operatives apprehended the suspects while they were conducting a tooth extraction procedure. The individuals were found to be operating without the necessary Certificate of Registration, Professional Identification Card, and special permit mandated by the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry of the Philippines.

Morico revealed that the suspects will face charges for violating Republic Act 9484, also known as The Philippine Dental Act of 2007. He emphasized the dangers and health risks associated with allowing unlicensed individuals, particularly foreign nationals, to practice dentistry without proper certification or a Special Temporary Permit from a regulatory body. This lack of legal accountability poses significant risks to patients.

The CIDG remains committed to safeguarding public health by eliminating all illegal medical and dental practices throughout the country.
