MANILA: Three distinct weather systems are forecasted to bring rain and potential thunderstorms to a significant portion of the Philippines on January 1, 2025, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA's early morning bulletin indicated that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) would cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, and the provinces of Palawan, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Meanwhile, the shear line is expected to bring similar weather conditions to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Apayao, Aurora, Bulacan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.
The northeast monsoon, known locally as amihan, will lead to cloudy skies with rains over Batanes, while the Ilocos Region, the remainder of the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Nueva Vizcaya will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. Other parts of Luzon are anticipated to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA has issued warnings about possible flash floods or landslides, particularly in areas affected by moderate to occasionally heavy rains. Additionally, moderate to rough seas are expected in the northern and western sections of Northern Luzon due to light to moderate northeast winds.
