Bacolod city: Negros Occidental's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has declared a blue alert from October 31 to November 3 to coincide with the observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day this weekend. In a memorandum, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson informed all city and municipal DRRM chairpersons and PDRRMC members about the status of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), emphasizing the need for readiness during the holidays across the province. According to Philippines News Agency, all concerned offices and agencies, along with the respective cities and municipalities, have been advised to monitor incidents, particularly in cemeteries, churches, and other places of convergence during Undas. The blue alert status necessitates that operation centers remain on standby, prepared to respond to any incidents that arise. Governor Lacson also instructed the city and municipal DRRMCs to coordinate preparedness measures and response action plans, as well as report any untoward incidents to the EOC. Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has deployed personnel to key areas as part of the security operations for the Undas holidays. Capt. Wilma Silva, NOCPPO spokesperson, stated that police assistance desks have been established in each cemetery across every city and municipality, as well as in seaports, bus terminals, and the airport. Personnel have also been assigned for security patrol and checkpoint operations. In addition, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has heightened its alert status in ports across northern Negros from October 31 to November 5. Commander Jansen Benjamin, chief of Coast Guard Station Northern Negros Occidental, confirmed that all sea travels are authorized, with 138 personnel distributed across all major ports in the area. Passenger assistance centers have been set up in eight ports to monitor sea travelers starting Thursday. Benjamin assured sea travelers that the PCG is focused on ensuring safe and convenient travel while mainta ining safety and security.
