Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered concerned government agencies to ensure the immediate and safe restoration of power in typhoon-hit areas. Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno clarified that the directive will be executed only when conditions are deemed safe to prevent accidents. According to Philippines News Agency, Nepomuceno emphasized the complexity of restoring power, stating that every meter of electrical line must be carefully examined to avoid sudden incidents that could lead to accidents or further damage. He stressed the importance of addressing communication issues immediately, while also ensuring that power restoration is conducted with caution. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is supporting the OCD in maintaining connectivity for those affected by the typhoon. Nepomuceno assured the public that the government is ready to provide assistance once weather conditions improve, urging affected individuals not to worry ab out receiving help. Parts of Luzon, particularly the Bicol Region, are still recovering from the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), which caused significant damage due to severe flooding. Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force (PAF), with support from Singaporean and Malaysian counterparts, conducted a relief mission in the Bicol Region on Wednesday. Two PAF C-130 aircraft, a Singaporean C-130, and a Malaysian Eurocopter transported relief goods, shelter repair kits, and hygiene kits from Pasay City to Bicol International Airport and Naga Airport, as stated by Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, PAF Public Affairs chief. These essential aid items are intended for distribution to remote communities severely affected by the storm in the region.
