Manila: The 41 foreign nationals arrested in Bataan province recently appeared before the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for their reportorial obligation. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed that the group, comprising 22 Malaysians, six Brazilians, six Bangladeshi nationals, two Chinese, two Vietnamese, one Pakistani, one Indonesian, and one Thai, complied with the regulatory requirement of presenting themselves before the BI's intelligence division on November 25. This appearance followed the temporary transfer of their physical custody to Bataan Representative Albert Garcia and their legal counsel under recognizance. According to Philippines News Agency, the transfer condition mandated that all 41 foreigners must report bi-monthly to the BI's head office in Intramuros, Manila. These individuals are currently facing deportation cases on the grounds of undesirability. In immigration terms, bail via recognizance indicates that while the subjects are not released, their physical custody is transf erred to a legal guarantor during the ongoing deportation proceedings. The arrests were part of an operation conducted by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission and the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at an alleged scam hub located inside Central One Bataan in Bagac town on October 31. Notably, one of the group members, Handoyo Salman, aged 40, was deported on November 21 after being identified as a fugitive. The legal proceedings against the 41 foreign nationals are still underway. If found liable, they will be deported. Commissioner Viado assured that the aliens would not be able to evade their charges, as their passports are retained by the BI, and their names have been included in the BI's hold departure list.
