Manila: The low pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, along with the southwest monsoon known as habagat, is anticipated to bring rainfall to numerous regions of the country, as reported by the weather bureau on Monday. According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the LPA, positioned 495 kilometers east of Surigao del Norte as of 2 a.m., holds a medium chance of evolving into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. This weather system is expected to cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon. The southwest monsoon will also lead to scattered rains and thunderstorms in the remaining areas of Mimaropa (Region 4-B). Furthermore, heavy rainfall is predicted in Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte. Metro Mani la and other parts of the country may experience isolated rain showers as a result of localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has warned that heavy rains and severe thunderstorms could potentially trigger flash floods or landslides in affected areas. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected to prevail across the archipelago, according to PAGASA.
