Dagupan city: The Dagupan City government is distributing 10 kilos of rice each to 50,000 families through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Belen Fernandez announced on her official social media account that 10,000 beneficiaries are receiving the free rice daily since the distribution commenced on Wednesday. In addition to the rice, the local government is also providing grocery items such as canned goods and noodles.
Mayor Fernandez expressed gratitude towards President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the initiative, highlighting the significant impact on thousands of Dagupe±os who are receiving food assistance and free rice. "Taos pusong pasasalamat po natin kay President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa programang ito kung saan libu libong Dagupe±o ang nabigyan ng food assistance at libreng bigas," she stated.
The LGSF and the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) are crucial elements in the government's strategy to bolster support for local government units (LGUs) and communities. The LGSF provides financial assistance to LGUs to support priority development programs and projects, while the SCPF supports community-level initiatives, including education support.
President Marcos emphasized during the launch of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang initiative in Las Pi±as City the importance of empowering LGUs. He noted that devolving funds to LGUs facilitates faster and more efficient service delivery, as local officials are better positioned to identify beneficiaries and implement programs compared to centralized processes that often face bureaucratic delays.
Under the LGSF program, families in need will receive 10 kilos of rice every two months, six times a year, to help ensure food security among vulnerable sectors. Additionally, the city government is selling up to 30 kilos of rice at PHP20 per kilo under the Benteng Bigas, Meron Na! program to support vulnerable sectors such as farmers, fisherfolk, tricycle drivers, solo parents, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
