Sibalom: The 64 child development centers (CDCs) in the Municipality of Sibalom in Antique are awaiting action from the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after receiving 'spoiled' pork intended for their Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP).

According to Philippines News Agency, Sibalom Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Ma. Dominga Zaragoza reported in an interview that the foul-smelling pork was distributed to the CDCs by supplier Kamapat Agricultural Cooperative on Monday. The pork, valued at approximately PHP150,000, was intended to serve as a one-month supply for the centers.

Zaragoza noted that by Wednesday, 64 CDCs had already complained about the pork, describing it as foul-smelling and possessing a shiny green color. This issue has been reported to the Sibalom Municipal Police as they await the response of the DSWD regional office.

Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil, chief of the Public Health Division at the Antique Provincial Veterinary Office, suggested that the pork was not handled properly. He indicated that it should have been stored in an icebox or chiller instead of being placed in plastic, which likely led to its quick deterioration. Ardamil emphasized the importance of proper food safety handling and added that the greenish color could be attributed to environmental exposure that promoted bacterial growth.
