Manila: A total of 7,501 families in three regions have so far been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon or "habagat," according to an official government count as of Friday morning.
According to Philippines News Agency, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the affected families, composed of 23,918 persons, are from 56 villages in Western and Central Visayas, and Soccsksargen. The report indicated that 115 families are currently sheltered in six evacuation centers, while an additional 106 families are taking refuge in other locations.
The Office of Civil Defense defines 'affected families' as those displaced and those not requiring relocation from their residences. Furthermore, the NDRRMC noted that 19 seaports in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao had to halt their operations due to adverse weather conditions.
Despite the challenges brought about by the tropical storm and the intensified southwest monsoon, there have been no reports of human casualties so far. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced in its 11 a.m. bulletin that 10 areas in Luzon are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2, while another 10 are under TCWS No. 1. Crising is anticipated to make landfall over Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands on Friday afternoon or evening.
