8 Taguig Police Officers Dismissed Over Warrantless Search Incident

Taguig City: Eight police officers in Taguig City have been dismissed following allegations of conducting a house search without a warrant, as ordered by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin. The officers were charged with grave misconduct, less grave misconduct, and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

According to Philippines News Agency, the decision came after a four-month investigation during which the officers were given the opportunity to defend themselves. The substation commander involved was found guilty of grave neglect of duty and received a one-rank demotion, while another officer was exonerated.

Aberin emphasized the importance of police accountability, stating, "The NCRPO will stand firm and uncompromising on ensuring police accountability within the ranks. Let it be known: there will be no second chances for police scalawags." He also reiterated the importance of adhering to Police Operational Procedures to ensure lawful and respectful conduct.

The incident gained attention after a viral video showed the officers, dressed in civilian clothes, entering a woman's home without a valid warrant on February 9. The woman had previously been charged with illegal drug possession but was acquitted in 2022. During the incident, the officers allegedly assaulted her 14-year-old son and took his mobile phone.

A caption accompanying the video claimed that these officers regularly conducted warrantless raids in an area known as "Block 5" almost every weekend. They were also accused of physical abuse and stealing over PHP76,000 in cash and several electronic devices.
