Bicol: Over 858 passengers and 402 cargo trucks have been reported stranded in the Bicol Region's ports as a consequence of Tropical Depression Verbena. The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol highlighted the challenging situation faced by travelers and transporters affected by the weather disturbance.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended sea travel to and from Masbate province since Monday, due to the area being under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1. In response to the situation, PCG-Bicol Commander Commodore Ivan Roldan stated that Deployable Response Groups, along with various stations and substations across the region, have been activated to ensure readiness for emergencies.
A contingent of 537 personnel, along with 10 land assets and 20 floating assets, is on standby, prepared for possible deployment in evacuation, rescue, and response operations. The PCG Command Center is diligently monitoring maritime activities around the clock and is maintaining close coordination with local government units and other agencies to prepare for potential emergency responses.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has announced the cancellation of flights to and from Catanduanes and Masbate provinces due to heavy rains and strong winds, affecting at least 444 passengers. The center of Verbena was estimated over the coastal waters of Hamtic, Antique, as reported in the 11:30 a.m. bulletin. Mainland Masbate, including areas such as Balud, Mandaon, Milagros, and others, remains under Signal No. 1.
