Manila: Nine local government units (LGUs) in Antique suspended face-to-face classes due to heavy rains caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon or 'habagat' on Friday. Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Broderick Train said the local governments of Tibiao, Sebaste, Culasi, Bugasong, Valderrama, Barbaza, Sibalom, San Jose de Buenavista, and Belison suspended classes from pre-school to senior high school for both public and private schools as a precautionary measure due to the heavy rainfall in their respective areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Broderick Train noted that Antique is currently under a yellow rainfall warning, with heavy rains impacting the region. In an interview, Train advised commuters to remain cautious while traveling, as certain road sections have experienced flooding. He mentioned that a flood had been monitored in the road portion of Caridad, Culasi, earlier in the morning, but it had since subsided.

Train assured that while water levels in major rivers are not alarming, they are under close observation by the Municipal DRRMOs. He also warned commuters, especially those traveling towards Iloilo, about potential landslides due to saturated soil conditions. Train advised the public to avoid non-essential travel and to stay at home for safety.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, sea vessels continue to operate in the ports of Culasi, Libertad, and Caluya. However, they have been alerted to the potential for rough sea waves resulting from the enhanced southwest monsoon.
