Manila: The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has reported significant progress in the registration for the national identification system in Western Visayas: 4,425,419 residents have been registered as of July 25. According to PSA Western Visayas Registration Officer III Jared Xerxes Barile, this figure accounts for over 91% of the region's population based on the 2024 Census of Population.

According to Philippines News Agency, the registration percentages for each province in the region vary, with Aklan at 90.2%, Antique at 92.1%, Capiz at 89.3%, Guimaras at 88.3%, and Iloilo leading at 97.1%. The PSA further reported that nearly 1.9 million residents have received their national IDs in paper format, while 3.2 million polycarbonate cards have been delivered.

Jared Xerxes Barile assured residents who have received paper versions that they will be issued polycarbonate cards once printing resumes. He emphasized the importance of the national ID beyond mere registration, highlighting the goal of integrating the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) into various systems to ensure seamless, secure, and convenient transactions in the future.

Barile explained that NIDAS uses advanced authentication technology and security protocols to provide accurate identity verification. Government agencies are now mandated to integrate NIDAS into their identification systems, databases, and digital platforms to promote interoperability and connectivity.

He acknowledged that while the system is not yet fully integrated, it remains a key objective for the government. The national ID aims to provide Filipinos and resident aliens with a unique digital identity, enabling reliable identity authentication for secure digital transactions. Agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. have already adopted the system.
