San jose del monte: The Department of Education (DepEd) has underscored the importance of maintaining accelerated career progression among public school teachers to improve the quality of education in the Philippines. This announcement coincided with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s participation in an oath-taking ceremony for 1,991 promoted teachers and school administrators from Bulacan and Pampanga at the City of San Jose del Monte Sports Complex.
According to Philippines News Agency, Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that the career advancement of public school teachers directly benefits Filipino learners. "Sa pagpapabilis at pagpapalawak ng promosyon, mas napapalakas natin ang hanay ng mga guro na siyang susi sa mas dekalidad na edukasyon para sa bawat batang Pilipino (By accelerating and expanding promotion, we further strengthen the ranks of teachers, which is the key to quality education for each young Filipino)," Angara stated.
The recent promotions in Central Luzon included teachers and school administrators who were elevated to higher ranks, such as Teacher II to Teacher VII, Master Teachers I to III, and principals from Principal I to Principal IV. Specifically, 408 teachers and school heads in Bulacan and 368 in Pampanga were among those promoted, alongside 301 in Mabalacat City, 238 in Angeles City, and 233 in San Fernando City.
Additional school divisions with promoted personnel include Meycauayan City with 128, San Jose del Monte City with 145, Malolos City with 90, and Baliwag with 80. Angara commended President Marcos' focus on prioritizing the education sector and supporting Filipino educators. "Malinaw na pagsasabuhay ito ng prayoridad ng Pangulo na palakasin ang ating sistema ng edukasyon sa pamamagitan ng mas matibay na suporta sa ating mga guro (This is a clear implementation of the President's priorities to strengthen our education system through enhanced support for our teachers)," he remarked, referencing the nationwide career progression initiatives for teachers.
In 2025, President Marcos signed Republic Act 12288, known as the Career Progression for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act, enabling educators to pursue competency-based promotions in teaching or school administration tracks. Earlier this year, 2,915 personnel were promoted or reclassified in the National Capital Region, along with 789 teachers in the Ilocos Region.
Angara also pointed to other measures aimed at improving conditions for public school teachers, including reducing workloads through the hiring of additional administrative staff, offering wellness leave benefits, and providing medical allowances, among other initiatives.
