Manila: The automated counting machines' (ACMs) tally of the votes cast in the May 12 midterm elections has been accurate so far, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the preliminary assessment of the ongoing random manual audit (RMA) indicates that 407 out of the 762 clustered precincts have been audited as of June 1. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia shared in a radio interview that they have conducted a manual audit of more than 400 clustered precincts out of the total number subjected to RMA. The ACMs are showing a 99.996 percent accuracy rate in their tally.
Garcia expressed the aim to complete the RMA by June 28, which started on May 14, and is hopeful that the high accuracy rate will be maintained. The law mandates a manual checking of the precinct vote count results generated by the ACMs to ensure accuracy.
In the May 2022 elections, the vote counting machines demonstrated an accuracy rate of 99.95 percent in reading the official ballots, as previously reported by Comelec.
