AGFO Endorses DND’s Position on West Philippine Sea

Manila: The Association of Generals and Flag Officers (AGFO) expressed support for the Department of National Defense's (DND) stance on the West Philippine Sea, emphasizing the importance of public officials' allegiance to the Constitution.

According to Philippines News Agency, AGFO stated, "Public office is a sacred public trust. Every public official is bound by a solemn oath to bear true faith and allegiance to the flag and the Republic, and to strictly obey and execute the laws of the land - including Administrative Order No. 29, series of 2012, which formally defines the WPS," in a statement dated Aug. 5, 2026, and released to reporters Thursday.

DND Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. previously emphasized that all public officials, particularly those elected into office, have sworn to uphold the Constitution and the country's laws.

As former military leaders dedicated to protecting the nation's territorial integrity, AGFO underscored three core imperatives: adherence to legal obligations, solidarity with troops and maritime communities, and responsible and contextual reporting.

"AGFO re-affirms its steadfast commitment to a peaceful, secure, and sovereign Philippines. We call on all public servants to bear true faith and allegiance to the nation and remain united in upholding the rule of law," the group concluded.
