Manila: The estimated amount of damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by tropical cyclones Crising (international name Wipha), Dante (Francisco), and Emong (Co-May), along with the enhanced southwest monsoon, has reached PHP12.84 billion, based on the official government tally. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) latest situation report highlights the significant impact of these weather events on vital sectors of the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, the NDRRMC's report, released on Friday, detailed that the damage to agriculture stands at PHP2.25 billion, while infrastructure damage has amounted to PHP10.59 billion. The severe weather conditions have also affected 77,798 farmers and fisherfolk, disrupting their livelihoods.
Furthermore, the report indicates substantial damage to residential structures, with 48,843 houses damaged and 6,707 completely destroyed. The widespread impact has affected 2,272,696 families, which includes 8,263,199 individuals residing in 8,503 barangays across 17 regions nationwide.
As of the current update, 27,516 families have sought shelter in 950 evacuation centers, while an additional 31,062 families have been accommodated by relatives or friends. The NDRRMC also reported that the number of fatalities remains at 37, with only two confirmed at this time.
