Butuan city: Preparations for the 2026 Palarong Pambansa are 80 percent complete, with Agusan del Sur allocating PHP200 million for the national games set for May, Governor Santiago Cane Jr. said Thursday. The province has been actively gearing up for the major sporting event, focusing on essential areas such as game venues, billeting quarters, and necessary sports equipment.
According to Philippines News Agency, the preparations in Agusan del Sur began last year, with significant developments in Bayugan City and the towns of San Francisco and Prosperidad, where billeting arrangements have been finalized with the Department of Education. To ensure the availability of necessary sports equipment, the province plans to borrow from the Philippine Sports Commission.
An executive committee meeting is scheduled for February 11, preceding a national board meeting later that month to discuss updates on the event. Governor Cane mentioned that they expect between 18,000 to 20,000 participants for the games.
Security for the event is being meticulously planned in coordination with the police and military, spearheaded by Police Regional Office 13 (Caraga Region) Director Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV. Governor Cane assured the public of the province's readiness, stating, "Don't worry, Agusan del Sur is prepared."
