Air Quality ‘Good’ Near Mayon as Environmental Authorities Intensify Monitoring

Albay: Environmental authorities report air quality near Mayon Volcano remains "good" as they intensify monitoring of pollutants linked to volcanic activity. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau in Bicol conducts daily air monitoring in Guinobatan, Ligao, Legazpi, and Tabaco cities in Albay province, checking for particulate matter and sulfur dioxide.

According to Philippines News Agency, water quality in several rivers is tested weekly for suspended solids, phosphates, and heavy metals, such as lead and cadmium, that could be carried by lava flows or ashfall. The bureau monitors the Basud, San Vicente, Nasisi, and Yawa rivers, among others.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Bicol reported nearly 200,000 family food packs and PHP176 million in food, non-food items, and standby funds are available for evacuees if needed.
