Alas Pilipinas Faces Defeat Against Korea in FIVB Girls U17 World Championship

Santiago: The Philippines bowed to Korea, 21-25, 18-25, 14-25, in the Round of 16 Wednesday in the FIVB Volleyball Girls U17 World Championship at the Liceo Mixto Los Andes in Chile.

According to Philippines News Agency, Caera Celis scored 14 points on 12 attacks, a block and an ace, while Xyz Rayco added nine as Alas Pilipinas set up a duel against Japan in the playoffs for 9th to 16th on Thursday in the capital city, Santiago.

Alas Pilipinas kept it close in blocks, 5-7, and hit four aces against six, while the Koreans' ability to score off-system gave them a 45-29 advantage in attacks.

Soyeon Son finished with 19 points, including 13 attacks, while Minseo Eo scored 15, with 14 coming from attacks, as Korea advanced to the quarterfinals against Turkiye, which prevailed over Japan, 25-18, 25-7, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Thailand stunned Poland, 25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-23, to earn a seat in the quarterfinals.

In other results, China triumphed over Dominican Republic, 25-18, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17; Chinese Taipei conquered Venezuela, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22; USA downed Argentina, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15; Italy beat Peru, 25-13, 25-11, 25-13; and Croatia won over Czechia 25-21, 25-21, 25-19.
