Alas Pilipinas Ready for FIVB Men’s World Championship Campaign

Manila: The Philippines is all set to host the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships from September 12 to 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena and Smart Araneta Coliseum. Alas Pilipinas, under the guidance of Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni, is aiming for victories against No. 13 Iran, African champion No. 23 Egypt, and No. 42 Tunisia in Pool A of the 32-nation event, marking the first time the country has hosted such a tournament.

According to Philippines News Agency, Philippine National Volleyball Federation President Ramon 'Tats' Suzara expressed confidence in the team's readiness during a media event at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila. Suzara, who also serves as president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and executive vice president of the FIVB, emphasized the historical significance of the event, encouraging the nation to demonstrate their passionate support.

Suzara's leadership extends to the Local Organizing Committee for the championship, co-chaired by prominent figures such as Presidential son William Vincent 'Vinny' Araneta Marcos, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, and Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco. Marck Espejo, a member of Alas Pilipinas, shared his enthusiasm for the competition and the opportunity to showcase Philippine volleyball on a global stage.

The team, which prepared with tune-up games in Romania, Morocco, and Portugal, will face Tunisia at 7 p.m. on September 12, following the opening ceremony featuring the K-POP group BOYNEXTDOOR at 4:30 p.m. Espejo highlighted the team's growing camaraderie and commitment to victory, promising to give their best efforts not just to compete closely but to secure wins for the country.
