Albay: Albay is set to partner with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to establish the Philippines' first local Artificial Intelligence (AI) readiness institute. The institute is expected to launch before October and aims to equip workers, students, and entrepreneurs with necessary skills for an AI-driven economy.
According to Philippines News Agency, Albay 3rd District Representative Raymond Adrian Salceda highlighted that the institute will initially target the province's large virtual assistant workforce, particularly those based in the 3rd District. The initiative includes covering TESDA assessment fees for free online programs to ensure that certifications remain accessible to participants.
The institute plans to gradually expand AI applications in various sectors including agriculture, government service delivery, public safety, disaster response, and basic health services. Salceda emphasized the importance of these areas for Albay's economic growth and quality of life.
In discussions with TESDA Secretary Francisco Benitez, Salceda revealed strategies to enhance rice productivity in the province's third district, recognized as its rice granary. Initiatives include targeted farmer training, AI-assisted crop management tools, and expanded access to TESDA's agricultural mechanization and precision agriculture courses.
