Manila: A woman and her four children were safely rescued after being held hostage by the father in Libon, Albay, as reported by the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5). The incident unfolded on Friday, prompting swift action from local law enforcement.

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib detailed that officers from the Libon Municipal Police Station were alerted by village officials about the hostage situation. Upon arrival, police discovered the suspect armed with a piece of wood and a broken bottle, holding his youngest child in a precarious position.

The operation was led by Albay Police Provincial Office Director Noel Nu±ez and Libon chief of police Maj. Christian Brual. Despite numerous attempts to negotiate, the suspect remained unyielding and refused to release the hostages, posing a significant challenge for the officers involved.

In a bid to ensure the safety of the hostages, the police, alongside the Albay 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and Special Action Force, opted for a strategic entry into the residence. The operation concluded with the successful rescue of the woman and her children, all unharmed.

Following the rescue, the suspect was apprehended by Libon police. The hostages subsequently underwent a medico-legal examination and were provided with counseling to address any trauma experienced during the ordeal.

PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Erosito Miranda praised the police officers for their effective handling of the situation. "In operations of this nature, the preservation of life is paramount. Our police force demonstrated resilience, restraint, and compassion in resolving the situation peacefully," Miranda stated.
