Tokyo:Filipino tennis player Alexandra "Alex" Eala's journey at the WTA 500 Pan Pacific Open came to an end as she was defeated in the quarterfinals by third-seeded Russian Diana Shnaider. The match concluded with scores of 6-2, 6-7(5), 4-6 at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday night.

According to Philippines News agency, Eala had previously lost to Shnaider in the Round of 16 at the Ningbo Open in China last week, with scores of 5-7, 4-6. In the upcoming semifinals, Shnaider is set to compete against Slovakia's Mia Pohánková, who defeated Alycia Parks of the United States, 7-6(3), 6-3.

The other semifinal match will feature Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan against Canadian Leylah Fernandez. Fernandez advanced after a walkover due to an injury to world No. 1 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

Reflecting on her victory, Shnaider, ranked world No. 13, expressed her surprise at winning the match, describing it as an "insane level of tennis" and acknowledging the tough competition from Eala.

Eala has experienced a series of early exits in recent tournaments, including a Round of 16 loss in Singapore and a first-round defeat at the WTA 500 Singapore Open to World No. 180 Tatiana Prozorova of Russia. At the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open, she was eliminated in the first round by Chinese qualifier Shi Han.

Looking ahead, Eala is scheduled to participate in the Hong Kong Tennis Open (WTA 250), beginning on November 2.
