Baguio: A civil society group fighting against corruption has assured that the rally here and in other municipalities of Benguet on Sunday will be peaceful. Baguio-Benguet Laban sa Korapsyon (Against Corruption) member Louise Montenegro said they will follow what's stated in the permit, which is effective until 12 noon only. 'Ang magaganap ay isang mapayapang rally at susundin natin ang permit. Hawak natin ay mga panawagan ng mabilisang aksyon at mga placard (We will stage a peaceful rally and we will follow what is in the permit. We will issue calls for faster action and hold only placards),' she said in an interview Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, participants will convene at 9 a.m. at the compound of the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center and march toward People's Park via Harrison Road. Montenegro said they want a swift investigation into anomalous infrastructure projects, identification of responsible persons, filing of charges and the return of people's money. 'Hiling namin ang pagpapanagot sa ninakaw at pagbalik sa pera ng taong bayan at talagang walang exemption 'yan sa lahat ng involved na corrupt na officials (We appeal that those responsible be penalized and return the people's money without exemption of involved corrupt officials),' she said.
The Baguio City Police Office said it is fielding around 600 uniform and civilian-clad officers as deterrent forces. Police deployment is also for other activities, such as the Sunday Session Road closure for the month in relation to the Baguio Charter anniversary, Baguio-Benguet Medical society unity-walk from the Baguio Cathedral to Harrison Road and the 'Hari ng Ahon' bicycle challenge.
