Antique Farmers Urged to Protect Livestock Ahead of Enhanced Monsoon

Antique: Farmers in Antique are told to secure their livestock ahead of the forecasted heavy rains due to "habagat" enhanced by Super Typhoon Bavi. 'There had been several drowning incidents when farmers were caught by the flash flood while attempting to secure their farm animals,' said Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer Broderick Train in an interview on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, a drowning incident was recorded in San Remigio in 2025 and in Patnongon in 2022. The PDRRM council will meet on Wednesday for the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment to know their preparations, especially if there is going to be a pre-emptive evacuation. 'As of now, we are closely monitoring the coastal areas and riverbanks with the Municipal DRRMOs for a possible rise in water,' Train said.

Meanwhile, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Western Visayas (MGB-6), in an advisory released on Tuesday, alerted local chief executives in the region to heavy rainfall due to "habagat" or southwest monsoon. Citing the 11 a.m. advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, it said that a rainfall forecast of 50-100 millimeters is expected over Antique due to the southwest monsoon on July 8-9 and the same volume over Iloilo and Guimaras on July 9-10.

'All residents within Western Visayas who are living near/along and at the mouths of river channels, creeks and other waterways, low-lying sites, coastal areas, mountain and hill slopes underlain by loose and weak materials and within areas classified as having moderate to very high landslide and flood susceptibility ratings are advised to take appropriate measures,' it said. The heavy rainfall may trigger landslides and floods in the areas classified as susceptible to landslides and floods based on the geohazard maps.

Bavi is forecasted to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between tonight and the early morning of Wednesday.
