Antique: The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is proposing to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique to include outdoor insecticide spraying as part of the 'Brigada Eskwela.' IPHO Information Officer Irene Duldoco stated that the proposal for outdoor spraying comes after the cleanup activity, especially in areas with clustering of dengue cases.
According to Philippines News Agency, Duldoco highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that there have been five dengue-related deaths, including that of a four-year-old child. She emphasized the need to ensure school safety. The IPHO can provide dengue-treated screens to schools upon request to help keep classrooms mosquito-free, along with insecticides for spraying if schools are unable to obtain them from their rural health units.
Duldoco reported that there have been 1,740 dengue cases in the province from January 1 to May 31. This figure includes the five deaths in the towns of Culasi, Sebaste, Anini-y, Valderrama, and Tobias Fornier. The ongoing 'Brigada Eskwela' initiative aims to prepare schools for the June 16 opening of classes, and the inclusion of insecticide spraying is seen as a necessary measure to protect students and staff from dengue.
