Pampanga: Mayor Paul Joseph Untaran assured tourists and guests flying via the Evelio B. Javier Airport of enough transport and accommodation in the capital town. Untaran, in an interview, said they expect an influx of tourists visiting the municipality with the newly developed airport.
According to Philippines News Agency, Untaran intends to put up a public utility vehicle terminal at the airport premises to provide easy transportation access for tourists and other passengers going to the accommodation establishments in the town proper, just 2.8 kilometers from the airport. He stated his plans following the inauguration of the Antique Airport Development Projects.
Untaran will also meet with the tricycle owners and drivers to organize regular trips to the airport. Currently, tricycles have special trips every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for passengers of the Philippine Airlines. With the influx of tourists and additional flights, the mayor noted that tricycles, which are the main mode of transportation around San Jose de Buenavista, will be encouraged to have regular trips to the airport.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that the LGU will partner with hotels and restaurants for their promotion and marketing. 'The local government unit (LGU) of San Jose de Buenavista will also help hotels and local restaurants through posting on our webpage their rates for the information of anyone interested in staying and dining with them,' he said.
Untaran expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Sen. Loren Legarda for their leadership that brought development in the province, especially the improvement of the airport. He also intends to promote local destinations in San Jose de Buenavista and not just serve as a springboard for tourists wanting to see other destinations in the province.
Among the historical destinations of San Jose de Buenavista are the 'Balay na Bato' (House of Stone), constructed in 1860, the old Punta Buganti or Spanish Parola built for municipal defense, and 'Bubon ni Alayon,' a well in Sitio Alayon in Barangay Bariri that is being preserved.
