Antique Residents Alerted vs. Kanlaon Ashfall

Antique: The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) on Tuesday warned residents against ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano's latest eruption that could reach the province. In an interview, Antique PDRRMO chief Broderick Train reminded residents of the harmful effects of ashfall to their health.

According to Philippines News Agency, Train urged the public to use face masks and limit their exposure outdoors to protect themselves against the ashfall emission that could be hazardous. Train recalled that in December 2024, some areas in Antique experienced ashfall from Kanlaon, with some Antique±os complaining about respiratory illnesses and poor visibility along the roads.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that Kanlaon Volcano erupted from 5:51 to 6:47 a.m. on Tuesday as a result of gas pressure. Meanwhile, from April 15 to 30, Train and two PDRRMO personnel would augment the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Negros Island Region (NIR) Incident Management Team assigned to the onsite monitoring of Kanlaon Volcano.

Train mentioned, "As augmentation personnel, we will be helping manage the operation center that has been set up at the NIR for the Kanlaon Volcano."
