SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique - Townsfolk in the municipality of Sibalom rushed to finish cleaning the tombs of their departed loved ones on Wednesday, the deadline set by the local government unit for these activities ahead of the observance of 'Undas' or All Saints' and All Souls' Days. Sibalom Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña issued Executive Order (EO) 2024-034, regulating the operations of all three cemeteries in the municipality and set Oct. 30 as the last day for cleaning of tombs. 'It is the responsibility of the municipal government to see to it that those who solemnly visit the graveyards of their departed loved ones will not be disturbed by unruly/undisciplined behavior,' the EO issued on Tuesday afternoon read. The order likewise prohibited bringing firearms, bladed weapons, and other similar items inside cemeteries for the two-day observance. 'Prohibited also are the bringing, selling and drinking liquor inside the cemeteries, playing loud music on the radio, gambling, and use of pyrotechnic display ,' the EO read. Meanwhile, Sibalom Municipal Police Station Chief Major Jeremy Magbanua, in a separate interview on Wednesday, said they will put up Police Assistance Desks (PADs) in the cemeteries to provide information and assist those who would be going to the cemeteries. 'We seek the cooperation of the public to ensure the peaceful observance of the All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day,' Magbanua added. He said their personnel would ensure banned items could not enter cemeteries during the observance.
