Antique: Antique residents were alerted about the possible impacts of the enhanced southwest monsoon or "habagat" on Thursday. Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Officer III Michael Tolentino said that the weather bureau forecast a yellow rainfall warning or a heavy rainfall of 7.5 mm to 15 mm per hour starting Friday until Saturday. Heavy rains are expected to cause flooding in low-lying areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of Thursday, no increase in the water level of major rivers, such as the Sibalom, had been monitored. However, residents along the river banks and coastal areas were advised to closely monitor the situation for their safety. Motorists were also warned of slippery roads, while fisherfolk were cautioned to take care when going out to sea to avoid being stranded.
During a meeting of the provincial DRRM Council, the Coast Guard Station Antique reported no advisory on the cancellation of sea trips. In the same meeting, offices and government agencies under the response cluster were requested to be ready. Tolentino mentioned that the municipalities of Tibiao, Sebaste, Culasi, Bugasong, and Valderrama suspended in-person classes due to heavy rainfall. Valderrama specifically suspended face-to-face classes only on Thursday afternoon due to the conditions. More suspensions of face-to-face classes are anticipated on Friday due to the yellow rainfall warning.
