Archbishop Alberto Uy to be Installed as Cebu’s New Archbishop on September 30

Cebu city: Archbishop-designate Albert Sy Uy is set to be installed as the head of the Archdiocese of Cebu in September.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu (RCAC) announced in a social media post that the canonical installation of His Excellency, Most Reverend Alberto Sy Uy will take place on September 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. Archbishop Uy will become the 25th Bishop and the 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

The RCAC noted that since its establishment as a diocese in 1595, Cebu has been led by 25 bishops. The elevation to a Metropolitan Archdiocese occurred in 1934, marking the beginning of a new line of archbishops. Archbishop Uy follows in the lineage of Archbishops Gabriel Reyes, Julio Cardinal Rosales, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, and Jose Palma as the fifth to hold the title of Metropolitan Archbishop.

The Cebu archdiocese expressed a call for unity in prayer and thanksgiving in welcoming the new shepherd and celebrating this significant moment for the local Church. Additionally, RCAC mentioned that further details about the installation, the thanksgiving celebration for outgoing Archbishop Jose Palma, and other related activities will be shared as they become available.

The Vatican formally announced Uy's appointment on July 16, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Currently, Uy serves as the head of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.
