Malabang: The Philippine Army has deployed an additional battalion of soldiers to Lanao del Sur to bolster security for the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections scheduled on September 14, 2026. Deployed to Lanao del Sur is the 28th Infantry Battalion (28IB) of the Army's 10th Infantry Division, which has been placed under the operational control of the 101st Infantry Brigade.

According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Yasser Bara, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, formally welcomed the officers and men of the 28IB, led by Lt. Col. Elben Naval, during a reception ceremony at the brigade headquarters in Barangay Matalin, Malabang, Lanao del Sur. Bara emphasized that the arrival of the 28th IB significantly enhances the brigade's operational capability as they intensify security preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The 28IB has been deployed as an augmentation force to reinforce the brigade's ongoing security operations. This deployment aims to ensure the peaceful, orderly, honest, and credible conduct of the historic first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections within the brigade's area of responsibility. Bara expressed confidence in the professionalism, discipline, and commitment of the troops to accomplish their mission.

The 28IB originated from Barangay Poblacion, Magpet, North Cotabato. In addition, the 101st Infantry Brigade is also set to receive support from a provisional battalion of the 1st Infantry Division, specifically organized to support security operations for the upcoming elections. Bara stated that the deployment of these additional forces reflects the Philippine Army's commitment to safeguarding the democratic process and ensuring a secure environment for all voters.

Bara reiterated their steadfast commitment to conducting the elections peacefully and credibly across the area of responsibility, highlighting the importance of the event for the Bangsamoro region.
