Army’s 2025 Arms Exercise Expands to Visayas, Mindanao

Manila: Philippine Army (PA) chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido announced the expansion of this year's "Combined Arms Exercise" (CATEX) "Katihan" to include Camp Kibaritan in Bukidnon and Camp Gen. Mariano Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz. These new locations will be added to the traditional training area in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

According to Philippines News Agency, the inclusion of these new venues underscores the nationwide scope of the exercise and addresses the need to test the large-scale movement of troops across the archipelagic country. "Katihan," scheduled from March 3 to 12, will focus on enhancing "command-and-control" capabilities.

Lt. Gen. Galido emphasized that the exercise aims to test combat readiness and the ability to execute complex operations. The outcomes are expected to strengthen command-and-control capabilities and enhance preparedness for national security challenges.

This iteration of CATEX "Katihan" is the second of the PA-wide military maneuvers, involving approximately 6,000 troops. It will include testing fire platforms like tanks and artillery pieces. The exercise of "command-and-control" is crucial for ensuring interoperability with the Navy and Air Force.

The 2025 CATEX "Katihan" coincides with the 128th founding anniversary of the Philippine Army, celebrated under the theme 'Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas.'
