Singapore: Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Monday underscored the importance of the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran for maritime safety and security.

According to Philippines News Agency, the ministers also called for safe and continuous transit in the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman essential for global energy security. In a statement, they emphasized the need for the restoration of safe, unimpeded, and continuous transit passage of vessels and aircraft in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The foreign ministers also highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of seafarers and ships in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), urging both sides to continue negotiations toward lasting peace. This statement came after US President Donald Trump's remark that the truce, announced on April 8, is "holding well" despite stalled talks and threats to block Iranian port traffic.

In their statement, the ASEAN ministers called on all parties involved to maintain conducive conditions for the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire. They urged adherence to its terms, exercising restraint, ceasing hostilities, acting responsibly, avoiding actions that may aggravate the situation, and working collectively towards a comprehensive and enduring resolution in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UNSC resolutions.
