ASEAN-Russia Summit Bolsters Multi-Sector Cooperation Says Marcos

Kazan: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan reinforced multilateralism and outlined concrete roadmaps for future collaboration. The summit provided a platform for reviewing the partnership amid a complex global geopolitical climate, with discussions covering regional and international issues like the South China Sea and the Middle East conflict.

According to Philippines News Agency, the summit marked the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations, offering ASEAN Leaders and President Putin a chance to assess their partnership and plan for the future in an increasingly complex global environment. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key sectors to promote stability, resilience, and prosperity in Eurasia.

Marcos highlighted that ASEAN and Russia sought closer collaboration to address security issues such as terrorism, transnational crime, cybercrime, and other non-traditional threats. Important documents were adopted during the summit, including the Kazan Declaration 2026, the ASEAN-Russia Joint Statements on Cultural and Energy Cooperation, and the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Plan of Action 2026-2030.

He emphasized the shift towards a multipolar world, acknowledging the changes in global power structures and the opportunities they present. Marcos mentioned the Philippines' adjustment to this new reality, moving beyond traditional alliances.

In a video message, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez praised Marcos for his effective performance as both Philippine president and ASEAN chair during his visit to Kazan. Gomez stressed the significance of Marcos' participation in strengthening the regional bloc and the Philippines' ties with Russia.

Marcos and his delegation returned to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City at around 4:02 p.m. on Friday, the PCO reported.
