Manila: Thick ashfall from Mayon Volcano affected at least 20 villages in Camalig, Albay on Monday, prompting local officials to distribute masks and clean roads. Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo reported that the ash was heavier than in recent days, reaching populated areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Baldo emphasized the severity of the situation, noting, "The ashfall has reached the villages, especially in the Mayon area. It is really thick. I received some pictures of how big the ashfall is. I hope it will rain so that the ashfall in the villages will be washed away." In response, he advised residents to remain indoors, wear masks if they must go outside, and use wet curtains to prevent ash from entering homes.

The Bureau of Fire Protection and local police have been actively conducting water flushing and road cleaning to mitigate the ash's impact. Meanwhile, 205 families, comprising approximately 2,000 individuals, continue to stay in two evacuation centers where health workers are prepared to handle cases of cough and colds. Officials are also closely monitoring the potential damage caused by the ash to agricultural lands.
