Manila: The Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) arrested 151 individuals and confiscated 31 unlicensed firearms during a three-day nationwide operation. A total of 140 coordinated operations conducted from May 26 to 28 led to the arrest of fugitives, high-profile suspects, and violators of multiple laws, according to a news release Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, authorities also seized PHP3.91 million worth of illicit and substandard goods, including unregistered vape products, smuggled cigarettes, petroleum products, and defective appliances. The operations, named 'Oplan Pagtutugis' (Pursuit), resulted in the arrest of 96 individuals based on warrants of arrest for offenses such as frustrated murder, statutory rape, human trafficking, estafa, and robbery with homicide.
In parallel, 'Oplan Paglalansag (Dismantle) Omega' enabled CIDG officers to confiscate 31 loose firearms, a hand grenade, and various ammunition via search warrants and buy-busts, also leading to arrests. Additionally, 'Oplan Megashopper' and other law enforcement efforts led to the apprehension of 45 suspects involved in the sale of illegal and counterfeit consumer products.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre, the incoming PNP chief, praised the operations for their efficiency. "We arrested 151 suspects and accused, and confiscated 31 loose firearms in just three days. This is remarkable. It underscores our commitment to law enforcement. This became our way of life, to arrest, 50 a day, very good number," Torre said in a statement.
