Bacolod city: This highly urbanized city has worked with international partners Clean Air Asia and German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to advance climate-sensitive and resilient urban development.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Greg Gasataya received planning toolkits, policy briefs, and climate risk assessment reports, as well as signed agreements, during the city's hosting of the Urban-Act Knowledge Handover at Roy's Hotel and Convention Center on September 1 and 2. In a press statement, Gasataya noted that the partnership should serve as a foundation for continued collaboration. He remarked, "We don't consider this as an end to the partnership, but we are looking at this as a jumping board for more and bigger partnerships for Bacolod City."

Gasataya emphasized that such engagement has equipped city officials and employees with knowledge and skills that can be applied in future planning and development initiatives. The technical outputs, developed through the collaboration of Clean Air Asia, GIZ Philippines, the University of Stuttgart and TU Dortmund University, are intended to strengthen the city's key planning frameworks, including the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Comprehensive Development Plan, and Local Public Transport Route Plan.

Furthermore, Gasataya and Clean Air Asia deputy executive director Glynda Bathan-Baterina signed a memorandum of understanding, covering cooperation in sustainable urban development, transportation, clean energy, and air quality management. They also entered into a memorandum of agreement for the deployment of AirGradient air quality monitoring equipment, enabling the city to monitor environmental indicators such as particulate matter (PM) 2.5, carbon dioxide, and temperature.

In the Philippines, Bacolod City is one of three pilot cities of the Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-Act), which aims to support low-carbon and resilient urban development in various cities across Asia, where Clean Air Asia and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities serve as the project's implementing partners.
