Bacolod city: Mayor Greg Gasataya announced the city's plan to introduce QR codes for all infrastructure projects to facilitate online monitoring of their progress. He emphasized that the Management Information Technology and Computer Services (MITCS) department has been tasked to implement the system within two weeks.
According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative follows Executive Order No. 39, which mandates the integration of QR codes into city government projects to enable an online monitoring system. Mayor Gasataya stated that this move is intended to enhance transparency, accountability, and governance, stressing that these projects are funded by public taxes.
The city has several major infrastructure projects underway, financed by a PHP4.4-billion loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines secured last year. These projects include the renovation of the old City Hall and City Health complex, as well as the development of a legislative building, a recovery and recycling complex, and an ecopark.
The QR codes will allow citizens to access information such as project details, costs, contractors, and timelines with a simple scan. Mayor Gasataya mentioned that the system will also feature a platform for residents to submit complaints, concerns, and feedback, ensuring prompt action from the city government.
Gasataya highlighted that this initiative sets a precedent for open governance, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and making information readily accessible to the citizens of Bacolod City.
