Bacolod: A team of firefighters who helped a young woman deliver a baby girl in front of the Bacolod City Fire Station over the weekend were given recognition by the Bureau of Fire Protection-Negros Island Region (BFP-NIR) on Monday. Fire Chief Supt. Rodolfo Denaga, BFP-NIR director, awarded the Medalya ng Papuri to Insp. Jemarie Tapiru, Senior Fire Officers 1 Gelvin Mapa, Francis James Bariento and Mohammad Saleh Ahmad Albadarneh, Fire Officer 3 Joanna Marie Trecho, and Fire Officers 1 Gabriel Gabrido and Stephin Magdato in a ceremony held at the Talisay City Fire Station grounds.

According to Philippines News Agency, Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, city fire marshal, stated that the swift response of the duty nurses and other emergency medical service (EMS) personnel of the central fire station demonstrated the BFP's core values to respond to all emergencies, not only fires. She highlighted the skilled assistance provided by the EMS personnel, which resulted in a safe and successful delivery, showcasing the professionalism and preparedness of the responders.

At past 10 a.m. on Saturday, 22-year-old Condrada Alisbo was on her way to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) on board a tricycle to give birth. Coming from Barangay Bata, the tricycle malfunctioned, and her companions pushed the vehicle toward the hospital. Alisbo labored along the way, and they sought help at the fire station on San Juan St. The EMS personnel assisted her in giving birth and later transported the mother and her newborn to the CLMMRH.

Supt. Masip expressed gratitude for the public's appreciation and reaffirmed the BFP's commitment to its mission to safeguard lives, promote safety, and uphold the highest standards of public service.
