Sebaste: Only light vehicles are allowed to pass the Carit-an Bridge in Barangay Abiera in Sebaste, Antique, after heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by the Tropical Depression Crising damaged its approach on Thursday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Antique Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer III Michael Tolentino stated in an interview that only public utility jeepneys are permitted to cross the bridge. Ceres buses traveling towards the northern parts of Antique and Aklan provinces are currently prohibited from using the bridge.
Tolentino mentioned that other sections of the highway leading to Aklan province in the northern part of Antique and to Iloilo city in the southern portion remain passable. In response to the situation, all 18 local government units in Antique have announced the suspension of face-to-face classes until Friday to ensure the safety of students.
To maintain educational activities, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique has shifted to alternative delivery modes, such as modular classes, for Friday. Tolentino also urged the public, especially students, to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary due to the ongoing heavy rains.
Efforts are underway, in collaboration with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, to consolidate information on evacuated families so that necessary assistance can be provided.
